How to Pair: Setting up Nanoleaf Lines on iOS

TIP: To pair before mounting, lay out the design for your Nanoleaf Lines on the floor or table and ensure that each Light Line is connected to a mounting connector.

Step 1:
Download the Nanoleaf Smarter Series App. When opening the app for the first time you will be prompted to create an account. This is used to connect to applications like Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and IFTTT, but is not a mandatory step for setup otherwise.

Step 2:
Plug your Nanoleaf Lines into power, and wait for the startup cycle to finish.
You'll know it's finished once your Lines begin cycling through colors, and the light on the Processor is on and steady. Please note that the light on the Processor will begin to flash after 15 min after which you would need to perform another soft reset.

Step 3:
Press "Start Pairing"  in the app. The "Add Accessory" window will appear to scan the HomeKit Setup Code (QR code). This code can be found on the postcard that came with your Lines  on the back of the Processor, or on the back of your Power Supply. You can also enter your code manually.

Alternatively, Nanoleaf Lines can be paired through NFC pairing, by tapping your phone to the back of the Processor.

Note: NFC will need to be activated on your mobile device in order to use this feature. Only certain phones support NFC pairing

Step 4:
The app will begin searching for your Lines.  When the pairing is complete the Lines will flash green.

Step 5:
Name your Lines, assign them to a specific room, or choose to include it in the list of Favorites in HomeKit.

Step 6:
The Setup Orientation screen will appear in order to confirm the orientation of your Lines with what is displayed on the screen. The LayoutDetect feature automatically detects how your Lines are connected to one another but you may need to rotate the layout on the screen. This ensures that the animations of your Scenes flow in the right directions!

Step 7:
Enjoy your Lines!

Nanoleaf Lines Processor LED - What does the light mean?

The LED above the reset button on the Processor indicates whether your Lines are connected to WiFi or not.

Here are the 4 states of the LED, and what they mean:

1. Steady On: The Lines are not connected to a WiFi network, and are searching for a network.

2. Off: The Lines were able to successfully connect to a WiFi network.

3. Flashing (every ~1s): The Lines have timed out and were not connected to a WiFi network within 30 minutes of being connected to power.

To resolve this, unplug the power supply from power, and then plug back in. After the boot up, the LED will change to On.

4. Flashing (every ~4s): The Lines were connected to a WiFi network, but are unable to reconnect.

Generally this occurs if the settings on your router or WiFi have changed. To resolve this, perform a soft reset, delete your Lines from the Nanoleaf App, and set up again

Reset Your Nanoleaf Lines

When to perform a reset?

If your Lines are experiencing any unusual issues, our support team may direct you to perform a soft or hard reset to help solve the problem.

Additionally, as your Nanoleaf Lines can only be connected to one WiFi network at a time, the following steps will reset your Lines so they can be configured onto a new network.

Soft Reset: This will reset WiFi and all pairing information for your Lines, but will keep your saved Scenes.

  1. Make sure that your Lines are plugged in to power and have completed the startup cycle (if they are still starting up each Light Line will be solid white)
  2. Using a paperclip or pin, press the reset button on the Processor for 10 seconds. The LED on the Processor will start flashing rapidly.
  3. Release the reset button and after a few moments the LED will remain on and steady.
  4. Delete your Lines from the Nanoleaf App, and pair them again.

Other configuration data is backed up to your Nanoleaf account if you have cloud sync enabled.

Expanding your Nanoleaf Lines Setup (Adding an Addition Power Supply)

The Power Supply included in your Lines Smarter Kit can support up to 18 Light Lines. Extending the layout above 18 Light Lines requires an additional Power Supply. You can extend your setup by adding the Processor and Power Supply from a second Lines Smarter Kit.

Here's how to accomplish this:

Step 1:

Ensure that both Lines Processors are on the firmware version 6.2.1 or higher. If either of the Processors are on an earlier firmware, you'll need to perform an update through the app.

Step 2:

Add the second Power Connector to your existing Nanoleaf Lines setup. The additional Processor will automatically go into passive mode while the first Processor will function as the main controller.

If you wish to extend you setup even further than the two Power Supplies allow, repeat these steps with any additional Power Supplies until you've completed the layout of your dreams!
